Naproxen and Esomeprazole are combined together in this medicine.
This medicine is used if you are required to take Naproxen for the relief of joint pain or inflammation, and is at risk of developing stomach ulcer, or when the treatment with lower doses of Naproxen or other pain reliever is ineffective.
Take Naproxen + Esomeprazole exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.
Take this medicine at least 30 minutes before meals. Swallow it whole. Do not dissolve, divide, chew, or crush the tablet.
Do not substitute Naproxen + Esomeprazole with single-ingredient products of Naproxen and Esomeprazole.
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose.
DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.
Do not take this medicine if you ever had an allergic reaction (rashes, breathlessness, swollen eyes) to Esomeprazole, Naproxen, or any other similar painkillers such as aspirin, mefenamic acid, ibuprofen, indometacin, ketoprofen, meloxicam or piroxicam.
Alert your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- stomach ulcers
- bleeding disorders
- asthma
- severe heart failure
- severe liver disease
- severe kidney disease
This medicine should not be used to treat pain before and after coronary artery bypass graft surgery (procedure to improve and restore the blood flow in the heart).
Do not take Naproxen + Esomeprazole with medicines for HIV infection (e.g. atazanavir, nelfinavir, rilpivirine).
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- heart disease or at risk of having heart disease (diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoker)
- systemic lupus erythematosus or SLE (immune system disorder marked by skin inflammation)
- history of inflammation of the bowels
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving this medicine to an elderly.
If you are going for an operation, including minor operations and dental work, inform your doctor or dentist that you are taking Naproxen + Esomeprazole.
Keep your appointments with your doctor. Your doctor needs to monitor your condition and check your response to the medication regularly.
- You may need to have routine blood tests (e.g. complete blood count, liver and kidney function). Your doctor will advise you about how often you will need to have these tests.
- An eye examination may be needed for long-term therapy of this medicine.
Naproxen + Esomeprazole may cause dizziness. If affected, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.
Other side effects include any of the following: headache, diarrheoa, constipation, stomach wind, and abnormal taste perception.
Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience any of the following:
- unusual bleeding or bruising
- pass out blood or black, tarry stools or vomit coffee-ground-like vomitus
- yellowing of the skin or eyes
If you develop rashes, breathlessness, swollen mouth or eyes, stop taking this medicine and inform your doctor quickly. These could be signs of an allergic reaction.
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Do not take Naproxen + Esomeprazole with medicines for HIV infection (e.g. atazanavir, nelfinavir).
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:
- other medicines for pain and inflammation e.g. aspirin
- medicines used in organ transplant or certain immune disorders e.g. tacrolimus, ciclosporin
- diuretics or “water pills” e.g. furosemide
- medicines for high blood pressure or heart disease e.g. digoxin, propanolol
- medicine to treat depression and mood disorders e.g. lithium
- blood-thinning medicines e.g. warfarin
- cholesterol-lowering medicine e.g. colestyramine
- medicines for fungal infection e.g. ketoconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole
- certain antibiotics e.g. clarithromycin
- cancer medicine e.g. methotrexate
- medicine for gout e.g. probenecid
- herbal medicines e.g. St. John’s wort
This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Naproxen + Esomeprazole.
Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Avoid alcohol.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
